How do I transition from my current maintenance process to the crystalline
H2O Process ?
For the first week, keep the same concentration of chlorine as you normally use, but stop using all other products.
What’s most important is to maintain alkalinity and pH levels within the recommended ranges (alkalinity: 80–120 ppm [mg/L] / pH: 7.2–7.8).
Two days after you stop using other products, backwash the pool and pour the first weekly dose of CRYSTALLINE H2O into the skimmer.
Over the next two weeks, monitor the concentration of chlorine as it gradually decreases to a minimum of 0.8 ppm (mg/L).
Once the water is balanced, you shouldn’t need any chemical products other than CRYSTALLINE H2O and a bit of chlorine to maintain a concentration of at least 0.8 ppm (mg/L).
How do I open my pool?
The filtration and circulation systems must be in good condition. You will need to use a superchlorination treatment (shock treatment) and vacuum the pool.
Make sure the water’s alkalinity level is between 80 and 120 ppm. Once the water is clear and clean, you can balance the pH (between 7.2 and 7.8) and pour the first weekly dose of CRYSTALLINE H2O into the skimmer. Dilute a second dose in hot water, and then distribute it throughout the pool.
At that point, the concentration of chlorine should be relatively high (1.5 ppm). Let it gradually decrease to 0.8 ppm (mg/L) and keep it no lower than that level all season long.
A double dose is only required when opening and closing your pool.
How often should I add chlorine to the water when using crystalline H2O?
Chlorine should be added as often as needed.
However, remember that when using CRYSTALLINE H2O, the ideal chlorine concentration is only 0.8 ppm (mg/L), so you’ll need to add much less chlorine than before.
What’s more, thanks to CRYSTALLINE H2O’s stability, it’s easier to maintain the concentration of chlorine at the recommended level.
What's the best way to measure the concentration of chlorine ?
For a residential pool, the most practical way to check the concentration of chlorine in the water is to use an inexpensive test kit available at hardware and pool stores.
Make sure to buy new testing solution every year, as it can lose effectiveness over time.
Another popular way to measure the concentration of chlorine is to use test strips that you dip in the water.
Is Crystalline H2O compatible with all types of chlorine (liquid, granular, pucks) ?
Yes, CRYSTALLINE H2O is perfectly compatible with all types of chlorine.
However, you don’t need to use stabilized chlorine, which is usually more expensive. All you have to do is make sure the concentration of chlorine in the water stays at a minimum of 0.8 ppm (mg/L).
The quantity of chlorine required to reach a concentration of 0.8 ppm will vary depending on the type of chlorine used (liquid, granular or solid). If using solid chlorine pucks with an automatic chlorinator, simply adjust the flow to 0.8, which is close to the minimum flow rate.
